Video Tutorial: SPLITTING A PDF FILE

Step 1: Upload the file to your Google Drive

  1. Go to your Google Drive and click “New” and then “File Upload”.
  2. When the upload box pops up, find the file you want to split on your computer and select it.

Step 2: Get the file split

  1. Double click on the newly uploaded file.
  2. Do NOT click “Open with Google Docs”. Instead keep it open in the PDF viewer screen that has appeared.
  3. Click the “Print” button in the top right corner. This will open your file in a new tab.
  4. In the new tab, click “Print” again. This will get the print menu to open.
  5. In the printing menu, make sure to set your destination as “Save as PDF”.
  6. Still in the printing menu, on the pages option, click the drop down area and choose “Custom” and enter the page number that you want. (This can be a single page, or a range of pages!)
  7. Click “Save”. You will then choose a name for your file page and a place to save it on your computer.
  8. Go to where you just saved your page (or pages) and double click. You now have a stand alone fie of that page (or pages) you can share with your students.

When your file is split you can assign the page through Google Slides or Seesaw or even just print a hard copy to send home. This time saving tech tip will allow you to focus on the main skills you want to teach, and you won’t have to scroll through umpteen pages to get to your desired activity while your students wait and watch.
